One date to know before you order. Microsoft lists the end of extended support for Windows Server 2016 as January 2027. Until then it still receives security updates, but a deployment started today has a short runway, so it suits extending an existing 2016 estate rather than building something new.
Windows Server 2016 Standard is sold here as one server with five CAL users included. Check whether your connection count exceeds those five, because additional CALs are bought separately and the two are not interchangeable.
